What if I told you there’s a drink where if you drink it regularly, you feel really good, and if you stop drinking it, you feel worse? Does that mean you’re addicted to this drink? Well, I'm talking about drinking water. So here's the deal. Caffeine by itself, even without all the good stuff in coffee or chocolate or tea, doubles ketone production in the morning and has benefits for humans. It’s rapidly absorbed, with about 99% of it hitting your body within 45 minutes of you drinking it. Depending on your genetics, you are going to get a peak in your body between 15 and 120 minutes after you get it; however, those rules don't apply if you are using Bulletproof coffee because the fats change the pharmacokinetics (the way your body absorbs the chemicals). Caffeine can pass through the blood brain barrier, and for most of us, it will last about five hours. Never have caffeine after 2pm—and if you are sensitive, you need to stop at noon. Caffeine works by blocking adenosine receptors and inhibiting phosphodiesterase. Still, there are other things that it does, and most people don't recognize the ketogenic nature of caffeine itself. For most of us, 100 mg is enough to feel good. Most recommendations say you should not go above about 600 mg a day, and around 400 mg is a good amount for most people. This is how much caffeine is present in anywhere from 1 to 4 cups of coffee, depending on where it was grown and how it was roasted. Don't worry about being “addicted” to caffeine because caffeine is a beneficial performance enhancer with good biological effects. Which one is your favorite?
