We all care about climate change and I’d like to talk about carbon offsetting.⁣ ⁣ ℹ️ Carbon balancing/offsetting means taking steps to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases you make, in order to compensate for emissions you make in other ways.⁣ ⁣ 🎉 @goclimate offers a service (I use it!) that lets you calculate your carbon footprint so you can track and reduce it. You can make monthly payments to finance certified climate projects - allowing you to balance your emissions. The average cost of offsetting is under £9 for someone in the UK, or under $15 in the USA. (If you wanna nosey at what mine costs, check my stories!)⁣ ⁣ 🧐 Why should we do this? Just a handful of corporations are responsible for a huge portion of global emissions! And governments are the ones responsible for the policies we need to collectively reduce our climate impact. However... this is no time for either/or, and that doesn’t take away our individual responsibility. We all have a role to play and in order to make the biggest impact on reducing carbon emissions, we need to tackle both systemic change and personal habits. People who live in the Global North are responsible for a lot more emissions than those in the Global South and yet we’re less likely to suffer due to climate change.
