I chose quality over weight 👌🏾 Read this for what I did to fix my squat ⤵️
Firstly let me just say fixing your squat form isn’t just about going deeper, it’s about squatting the optimal way for your structure. I have a whole detailed video coming to YouTube this week where I explain everything, but these are the things I personally changed to improve:
1️⃣ Stance width
I was squatting too wide for structure, you can see in my face that squats were incredibly uncomfortable squatting this way, everything about it was off.
Contrary to what most would assume, tall people with long femurs actually benefit from a closer stance.
I was performing a high bar squat, with a very wide stance, which didn’t really make much sense. A high bar squat with the torso upright, requires significant knee and ankle flexion, more achievable with a close stance.
2️⃣ Depth
Only by correcting my stance was I able to unlock the depth that had been missing for years, it was nigh impossible to get depth with my feet so wide apart with a high bar position.
3️⃣ Breathing
I wasn’t breathing correctly at all, in fact there was no set breathing method.
Although I do appear to be holding my breath in the before videos, it was instinctive and not particularly conducive to my performance.
My corrected technique now involves taking a deep diaphragmatic breath, bracing my stomach, holding my breath for the full repetition, before exhaling at the top.
