I’ve learned so much about preforming from this experience and I feel like for the first time in my skating career, I have learned how to be 100% present and in the moment during a performance. As an over-thinker, it’s always been something I worked so hard on when I was competing. I got close during some of Eric and I’s best skates but even then, I was partially distracted by a triple twist, a triple lutz or a throw quad. Even when I skated in shows for the past decade, I put so much pressure on myself and overthought the choreography and movement and always found that my mind was two steps ahead of the present moment. For probably the first time ever, I stand in my starting position and just breathe. It may seem so simple but for me it’s everything. If nothing else, #botb has given me the gift of being in the moment and for that, I am so grateful.
