Born to Jamaican parents, she was raised in Brixton, and everyone in London called her “skinny.” She didn’t feel pretty and was not comfortable in her own skin until she really began working on herself - from fighting to get an education all the way to launching her music career – and then she finally felt free. She discusses all of this in her autobiography entitled It Takes Blood and Guts.
