It is still the same system that was created hundreds of years ago, but the world we live in now is unrecognisably different. We have a political system based on opposing political ideologies ,which reinforces and even forces division. We need to stop this form of adversarial politics. It is out dated and not in touch with who we are now. It is not fit for purpose. We are complex people . We all express very different desires and aspirations but fundamentally we all want the same things; safety, health, education, the young to be listened to and the old to be looked up to. We all want to feel that we are important, cherished, loved and valued and that no one is more or less important than anyone else. We need to find a political system that helps us all to be that. Adversorial or party politics is not it. We need a new political system . Imagine a parliament where there is no party system, but instead people voted in and whose purpose must only be to serve their electorate not a political party. Its members should have held a job for at least 10 years, wether that job is farmer, lawyer, firefighter, midwife, road sweeper, doctor, musician, greengrocer or builder, but a job where they begin to understand life. Most of all we need people with empathy as well as education, who have travelled and seen other cultures, who are passionate not power hungry. We need a government who wants to learn, listen and respect other peoples opinions. Who are respectful ,excited and interested in other peoples cultures. We must take out the awful deforming bias of money from politics. No politician should accept financial donations. No wealthy business lobbies who reward politicians with favours. Most importantly, the truth must be up held as sacrosanct. Anyone found to have lied should no longer be allowed to be a politician. I know this is a huge change, but why can’t we have a political system for our age and that is intelligent, fair and not corrupt ? Why is that an impossible demand? Change has to start somewhere .
