The real Earth angels and plant whisperers. As I continue seeking sustainable alternatives to modern day consumerism, I realize now I’ve been going about this backwards. I come from a family of plant lovers and land stewards- my uncle, my brother, my father have all been caretakers of the land- and it’s things like permaculture, the connection to land and animals and food forests / food autonomy that are a part of who I am because of my family’s influence. But I just had a huge wake up call about myself and our country as a whole- specifically regarding food and regenerative ag. We should be following the guidance and treasuring the wisdom that comes from the beautiful relationship cultivated between the land and its original guardians aka Indigenous Peoples, but instead we bury their truth and history and call their wisdom ours. They are the true masters of regenerative farming and the true pioneers of sustainability. It is not only essential to include and acknowledge this, but to praise and learn from them, and restore the damage that was done through colonialism which is still being inflicted upon them today.
