My personal photographs of family and friends curated for In the picture give total control to my subjects over how they portray themselves whether it be through choices in their own personal style, backdrops and poses, whilst not creating pressure so they can be free and allow their true self to shine through comfortably in my images.”   About the artist - Nigerian-British photographer Ruth Ginika Ossai grew up between South-Eastern Nigeria and Yorkshire. Ossai’s personal photographs celebrate identity, particularly Nigerian identity and culture, shooting Ossai’s friends and family at and away from home.  Using her makeshift studio with colourful backdrops inspired by Nollywood films (Igbo and Yoruba) to create collaborative storytelling with her subjects, that are fun, playful, strong and unapologetically so, filling her subjects with power and agency.
