“Design needs to answer honest questions about how you really feel about something, rather than just following it because it’s the done thing," says design entrepreneur Srila Chatterjee. The century-old Mumbai apartment she owns with her filmmaker husband Mahesh Mathaigot a full remodel recently, and is featured in ELLE Decor's November 2020 issue. When the couple bought the place it was shoddily held together by four separate flats, but this didn't phase the couple as they opened and fixed the space up and brought their personalities into it. The colorful apartment is where Chatterjee and Mahesh spend most of their days now during the pandemic, and they are prouder than ever to have included exuberant decor, which they have amassed from near and far.
