RISK FACTORS

• A woman’s risk of breast cancer nearly doubles if she has a first-degree relative (mother, sister, daughter) who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

• Age is also a significant risk factor for breast cancer, as 2 out of 3 invasive breast cancers are found in women 55 or older.

PREVENTION AND SCREENING

• Regular mammograms are the most reliable way to find breast cancer early, when the cancer is smaller and easier to treat.
o Women ages 40 to 44 may begin annual mammograms if they wish to do so.
o Women age 45 to 54 should get mammograms every year.
o Women 55 and older may choose to switch to mammograms every 2 years. Screening should continue as long as a woman is expected to live 10 more years or longer. #breastcancerawareness @su2c
