During a visit to Sardinia, we met local strongman @klaas_willems, who recommended one of his hardest routes 'Still Alive', a masterpiece of a route. Over time we noticed his strong cough, and he explained he suffers from CF, a nowadays uncureable lung disease. He shared with us the story behind the route: "Several years back I starting bolting in Ulassai, one of the main areas on Sardinia. I put some bolts on this great looking line, but didn't finish my work, and soon after was diagnosed with cancer. After treatment, the doctors said I will never be able to climb as hard in the future. Some time later I returned and finished bolting the same route, and was determined to climb it. Eventually, I succeeded, and my hardest route was born: 'Still Alive', 8c, one grade hardest than I had previously climbed!" It's stories like this that make you realize what the actual worth of our sport is, way beyond whatever we usually think it is, and waaay beyond grading discussion, climbing polemics and whatever we meet these days on the gram 😅 Sounds a bit dull, but thanks Klaas, for waking me up! • Photos by @jan_novak_photography and @tobias_lanzanasto」10月23日 0時22分 - jorgverhoeven
