The folk-rock band Big Thief formed in Brooklyn in 2015 and quickly became one of the most acclaimed new groups of recent years, in part because of the guitarist and songwriter @adriannelenker’s emotional transparency, and in part because of how her simultaneously delicate and craggy voice complements the group’s bold use of dissonance and volume. This month, Lenker will release two solo albums. She made the records simultaneously, at a remote cabin in New England, in the early, panicked days of both the pandemic and a breakup. “I was surprised at how much I was writing, because I was in so much pain,” she said.
