What is Mailbox Peak? We’re glad you asked! This WA trail got its name in the 60s when a local postman who also worked at a summer camp near the mountain, hauled a mailbox to the top. He then challenged campers to climb the peak and sign the summit register he left in the box. The trek, however, was not an easy one. The original route gained 4,000 feet in elevation in less than 3 miles, and it remains a popular training hike for bigger summits in in the Cascades…such as Mount Rainier.
