Photo by @francescolastrucci / The multifunctional structure of the Heydar Aliyev Center was completed in 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. It’s among the most surprising and incisive works of iconic architect Zaha Hadid. She designed its fluid shape in contrast to the rigid architecture of the Soviet era, and it was inspired by Islamic calligraphy and forms of traditional Azeri architecture. The center includes a museum, an auditorium, and several workshop and exhibition spaces.
