Thank you so much for reading these Sunday stories here for the last five years written by students all over the country who are most impacted by climate change. And a HUGE thank you to the students who continue to share. Your time, energy and effort are beyond inspiring. Your voices are loud, intelligent and make me believe in humanity in a way I can’t describe. If I do one thing right, I hope it is to raise my child to be as amazing as all of you, fighting for the planet and investing in a future that benefits all, Earth included. Today’s Sunday story is written by Sam Woodman. Sam thank you for sharing something so personal with all of us. 🌎 “There will come a moment in which every person realizes climate change is coming for them. For me, that moment came the morning after a blizzard in 2018. My street was notorious for small scale floods, tucked away between the marsh and the ocean. But this was the first time in my 20 years that the water passed our neighbors house, flowed over the curb and lapped against our front stairs. Our one and only family car was totaled, along with 13 other cars on the street. My single mother had to spend her life savings on a new car to drive my sister and me to school, sports, and work. We aren’t the only ones living on the edge of our financial means and facing crippling disasters. Climate change almost always impacts poor communities first, the very communities that emit the least climate pollution. That’s why I redoubled my efforts, and began working with the @environmentalvoter Project and @ourclimateleaders to mobilize youth to vote and lobby for equitable climate policies. So many elected officials in my State House still mistake a scientific and personal issue with a political one. They pretend we have the choice to ignore climate change because they aren’t going to live through the worst of it. Young people like me don’t have that luxury. Nor do my neighbors as they watch their livelihoods and their beloved marsh wash away. Let’s build an unstoppable movement so together, we can hold back the tides.”」10月12日 13時47分 - nikkireed
