Jessica will be skating for DO IT FOR DARON: a youth forward movement advocating and educating young people to speak openly about their mental health. I will be skating for FREEDOM SCHOOL TORONTO: a youth and parent driven initiative that intervenes to fight against anti-Black racism in the school system and to creative educational alternatives for Black children. . . The representation of Black skaters this season means so much to me. Skating with Black excellence in the form of Akim Aliu, Vanessa James, and Anthony Stewart reignites the wonderment and joy of the little Black boy who used to love figure skating. I know in the grand scheme of the world and its many issues that this is such a small part, but I hope that I can affect meaniful change in my little part of society and the world more broadly. . .
