Just like you and me, even some of the toughest creatures in the animal kingdom fall victim to sunburns and insect bites. While the black rhino’s thick plated skin looks and acts like a nearly impenetrable form of body armor, it is actually quite sensitive, and can scar easily on the surface. To protect themselves from the elements, these gentle giants are often spotted soaking in mud or rolling in dust, which serves as a natural form of sunscreen and insect repellent.
