In the wild, roan antelope are usually found in herds of six to fifteen individuals, though groups can sometimes contain as many as 35 members. Led by a single, dominant male, the rest of the group consists of females and their young. Juvenile males are forced out of the herd at about three years of age, while younger females will remain until the herd becomes too large, at which point they will disperse and form a new herd.
