A final memory of my Dad. One night last year he was finishing his evening meditation, cleaning up the kitchen.  Mom and I were watching TV.  Dad suddenly called out, “Come outside!”  Mom said, “It’s cold out there.”  Dad said, “Come out now before I forget why. “

We joined him on the porch and he pointed to the full moon rising over Cheyenne Mountain. I imagined missiles huddled like bats inside. But Dad saw only beauty and he saw it more clearly than anyone encumbered by past or future, “Will you look at that?” He said. “Isn’t that something?  It makes you think you can be good.”

My Dad didn’t love his father.  He loved us.
