Suddenly, instead of being the one to give the advice of “everything happens for a reason” or “someday it will make sense,” I was desperately trying to find ways to practice what I had always preached. I was flailing. Fast forward to today. This year has been unprecedented to say the least. And while some things, like a global pandemic, don’t make sense and seem downright unfair, I’ve taken a hard look at the other aspects of my life that ARE completely in my control. Hinging your own happiness on that of another person, while fulfilling to me in so many ways, was not serving me. I sat with myself. I sat with the uncomfortable silence of just ME. I relearned what made my heart feel whole, and re-charted plans that had fallen to the wayside. I certainly don’t have it all figured out—most likely not even the half of it. But, prioritizing my relationship with myself has replaced the fear with feelings of hope, excitement, happiness, and love. So if you’re reading this and going through something or wondering if things will ever get better, I’m here to tell you: I promise they will. You will be okay.
