But the truth is that I didn’t want to hurt this person. I love this person. And those I trust most have encouraged me to share who these songs are about in order to shed the secrecy surrounding addiction.⁣ ⁣ The album is about my wife’s @brandybschultz mother and her struggle with addiction and mental illness. This has led to her being admitted to the ER 96 different times last year alone. ⁣ ⁣ For the last 11 years Brandy and I have gone through this rollercoaster together - buying her a house we were forced to evict her from, putting her into a rehab which she left, and feeling helpless as she was in and out of jail and on the streets /homeless. ⁣ Recently, with Brandy’s incredible brothers, we were granted guardianship over Brandy’s mom in order to try to finally get her the help she needs and deserves. ⁣ ⁣ So when you listen to Gloria, Leader of the Landslide, Donna And this album in general, you have a small understanding of who it was written “about.” But I still think the beauty and power of songs is that MY PAIN IS YOUR PAIN IS OUR PAIN.
