This guy invented the “Teleyeglasses” (the world’s first VR goggles) in 1936. They were built from cathode-ray tubes and tiny low-voltage batteries. It could display stereoscopic images because there was a separate screen for each eye. The large V antenna protruding from them made Life magazine call it “neo-Martian”. He also had blueprints for lunar mining, orbital mirror arrays, and actual plans to “teleport ham sandwiches”. Hugo Gernsback is my new favorite person, lest we forget he also coined the term “science fiction”. ⚡️
