Last month I had the honor of speaking with @iam_samata , CEO of @redcarpetgreendress about fashion, sustainability, human rights, proper culture representation and ways to ensure businesses can prioritize worker compensation by creating a direct line of communication with the people who are actually creating the products we buy. Samata is a leader in this space. Before she was the CEO of RCGD, she had her own fashion line, and knows intimately the challenges and obstacles that come with sustainable production. We spoke about the margins and how brands actually achieve their retail price point, the hidden cost we pay for fast fashion, and the poor treatment of workers who never benefit from the products they create. As a business owner, I am constantly seeking new ways to be not only sustainable but regenerative, while prioritizing ethical labor and remaining conscious of the environment and resources used to create the treasures we love and cherish. This conversation could not have happened at a more appropriate time. Understanding the overlap between human rights and environmental rights is crucial for all of us. This, as I am beginning to recognize, should be the focal point since all other aspects of sustainable business and business in general start here. There will always be more learning and unlearning to be done.
