I was at @nyutisch but had just produced a record for a white rap group from @harvard called #BMOC Their song was called #PlayThatFunk. The cover of the record was actually photographed by @glenefriedman who also took this photo of #KRSOne I got a record deal with @sirerecords and the only other rapper on the label was @icet whose manager #JorgeHinojosa introduced me to the rap group #BoogieDownProductions so they can remix the record and so he could manage them. They had an underground hit called #CriminalMinded and were the hottest rap group in NY at the time. I booked the famous #ChungKingStudios and agreed to pay #BDP $1500 for the remix. DJ Scott LaRock, KRS One @dnice and #MC Boo all showed up at the studio and remixed the record off the two inch using the beat of Criminal Minded under BMOC’s vocals. I left early because I had film class the next day and when I called the Studio to pick up their mix the owner Steve Ett told me he wouldn’t release the master unless I paid 10k because they tagged the mixing board “BDP SOUTH BRONX” on their way out. I guess they were also Graffiti artists. The next day I am @thegarden with #IronMike, we got separated and I bump into Scott and Kris who asked me for the 1500 dollars I owed them. I told them I couldn’t give them their money because the studio wouldn’t release the remix until I paid for the damage they did. They decided to take me around the back of the Garden away from everyone and jump me, drop a metal mop bucket on my head and gave me a few kicks in the gut ala ‘Goodfellas’ I guess I got knocked the f_ck out because by the time I got up off the ground the concert was over and Tyson was gone! I was only 17 and scared so the next day I met Scott at #BertPadell’s office so I could pay him his money. Scott gave me a pat on the back and said “no hard feelings white boy, sorry we had to rough you up, we cool now” I left there thinking I should probably focus on film school. When Scott La Rock left me that afternoon he was shot and killed in the Bronx. #RIP」8月25日 16時45分 - brettrat
