Class 155 of El Camino College Fire Academy starts on Monday, and I’m one of the 32 recruits. Earlier this year, I decided that I was going to be in a fire academy this fall. I’ve worked hard for this, and it’s the coolest feeling to see it manifest into reality. Some facts on ECFA, what a Fire Academy is for, and what I’ll be doing: • It is 4 months long. • It is full-time: Monday-Friday of each week from 6 AM-5 PM. No compensation. • I am the only female in a class of 32. The fire service is currently 4% female, so this is not a novel statistic, but it is definitely something we are trying to change. I am stoked, however, to have 31 new brothers. And I’ll never have to wait in line for the bathroom. 🙌🏼 • It is designed as a highly disciplined program. The overarching objective is to train the recruit to operate efficiently in emergency situations at all times. • A high degree of physical and mental pressure is applied to the recruit without affecting the academic program and the individual’s dignity and ability. • The academic program and the instruction of manipulative skills will maintain a standard of excellence so that recruits graduating from the Fire Academy shall be adequately prepared for a career in the Fire Service. • Topics covered include organization of the public and private fire service, characteristics and behavior of fire, fire protection systems and water supply, fire hazards and firefighter safety, tools and equipment used in the fire service, extinguishing agents and related extinguishing equipment, incident command system, building construction and assemblies, basic firefighting tactics and strategies, fire preventions, hazardous materials, confined space, and wildland firefighting. • Recruits will earn California State Fire Marshal certification in Fire Control I, II, III B, IV, & VI, Auto Extrication, Confined Space Awareness, Hazardous Materials Fire Responder Operational, Hazardous Materials Fire Responder Decontamination, S-130, and S-190. #fireacademy #firefightertraining #class155 #pride #gametime #onseason」8月22日 13時25分
