Matika from @project_562 here. Today we are diving deeper into the work of @jnicolehatfieldart :

Born and raised in the Southern Plains of Oklahoma, J. Nicole Hatfield (@jnicolehatfieldart) is from the Penetukah (Honey Eater) band of Comanche’s. As a contemporary painter, she draws inspiration from historical photographs of proud Indigenous women. By painting them she feels as though she is acknowledging their existence, remembering the hardships they endured, and honoring their resilience.

“My Indigenous goddess series is based on positive Native women from all walks of life. This ongoing series, is mainly women that I look up to and am inspired by. I want our youth to see them as well, so they too can have someone to look up to…. my voice is in the paint, it’s my medicine."

Please like and follow her work on her website jnicolehatfield.com or on the gram @jnicolehatfieldart.

She is also a guest on our special three part series made for @designsonge: “Indigenous Artist to Artist” on @amrpodcast . We invite you to listen. :)
