東急線沿線にある日本家屋建物。
オシャレなアパレルストア、カフェなどが立ち並ぶ代官山駅から徒歩5分の距離に、関東大震災以前から残る貴重な建物「旧朝倉家住宅」があります。大通りからすぐの場所にもかかわらず緑豊かな日本庭園が広がる敷地一帯は、静寂に包まれていて昭和初期（20世紀初期）にタイムスリップしたかのような雰囲気です。

平成16年に国の重要文化財に指定されたこの建物は、大正8年に東京府議会議長や渋谷区議会議長を歴任した朝倉虎治郎氏によって建てられたもの。その4年後に発生した関東大震災により、東京の建物の多くが倒壊したため、当時の建築様式を残す貴重な文化遺産となっています。
主屋は、木造2階建てで、ほぼ全室が畳敷き、屋根は瓦葺、外壁は下見板張、一部が漆喰塗りとなっており、明治時代から昭和30年頃まで（19世紀後半から20世紀初期）に建設された大きな邸宅の特徴を顕著に表しています。

Japanese style estates along the Tokyu Lines.
The streets around Daikanyama Station are lined with trendy clothing shops and cafes, but if you walk just 5 minutes farther, you’ll find the Former Asakura Residence, a treasure that survived the Great Kanto Earthquake. While it’s just off a main road, the entire estate sits in a sprawling, lush Japanese garden so serene its like stepping into a time set 100 years ago.
Designated as an Important Cultural Asset in 2004, the residence was first constructed in 1919 by Torajiro Asakura, former Chairman of both Tokyo’s prefectural council and the Shibuya City Assembly. Just 4 years after its construction, the Great Kanto Earthquake destroyed many buildings across Tokyo, making this residence a rare, surviving glimpse of cultural and architectural heritage from that era.
The estate is a 2-story wooden building that features primarily traditional tatami-style rooms inside. It’s furnished with a tile roof and clapboard exterior walls, as well as a plaster finish on some parts that was characteristic of so many buildings made from the late 1800s to 1950s .
