This one is a 20-25 min. ride on the Hachiko bus from Shibuya Station. If you take it to the last stop, Yoyogi-Uehara Station and walk 5 min. you’ll find Tokyo Camii, Japan’s biggest mosque made in the Turkish Ottoman style. Here’s a little background on how the mosque was built here. The story starts with the Russian Revolution in 1917. At this time, many Turkic people immigrated out of former Ottoman territory into the Shibuya Ward. They built the original “Tokyo Islam Prayer Hall”, which was rebuilt into the Tokyo Camii that you see here today. The mosque is stunning and open for the general public to view inside. You can also find a Halal food market inside, as well as a place to enjoy a lunch of Turkish fare and sweets at the café and gallery.
