We do this trip every year and after lots of hemming and hawing, we decided to do it this year too. We skipped our usual spa and beach visits and opted for neighborhood walks, a hike to a secluded spot on the bay, lobster roll take out and lots of time hanging out at my friend’s house, eating cheese, drinking wine and sharing all our new hopes and fears for whichever direction the world turns next. It felt really strange to be away from my family for a few days, but so necessary to see my best friends since I was 20. I cried when I saw them.
