Please read today’s post by youth leader @sharonashnayder who has worked as a climate justice warrior and also cofounded an organization called @tuesdaysfortrash . She was PSUs 2nd youngest graduate in the last decade with a BS in accounting, 3.9 GPA, honors designation and has been chosen as one of this year‘s commencement speakers. “One person, one voice, and one message is all it takes to spark a change. Though as an activist, the main critique I get is that one individual’s actions aren’t enough to make a big difference. That me doing the right thing doesn’t hold much weight in the grand scheme of life. But if that were true, how would we explain the weight held by the actions of Derek Chauvin and Daniel Pantaleo, police officers responsible for the injustice that’s sparking so many right now to fight and raise awareness for change? The actions of every individual holds weight, and we each have the power to impact our society in a positive or negative light. The choice to make our actions good or wrong is ours. Personally, my choice is to actively pursue the good. Because I'm hopeful for a future where we still have an Earth to call home, clean air to breathe, and can safely live our lives without fear of those who wish to spread hate and injustice. I strongly believe that who you are is defined by what you’re willing to struggle for, and climate justice is my primary struggle. This can’t be achieved without structural changes in our society to mitigate centuries of systemic racism. Unfortunately, racial and climate justice aren’t achieved overnight, it’s going to take each of us deciding to do something about it on an individual level before we see progress on a mass scale. So don’t wait any longer, the time to start is now.” ~Sharona Shnayder, 20-year-old Portland State University Alumni, + @ourclimate + @tuesdaysfortrash cofounder」8月10日 2時01分 - nikkireed
