Hey! Today is the 55th anniversary of the passage of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965, that prohibited racial discrimination in voting. In 2013 the Supreme Court gutted key provisions that helped to protect voters in states with a history of discrimination, ushering in a new wave of voter suppression efforts.
