We wear a mask to take care of each other. We wear a mask to support and show our gratitude for the health care workers who are risking so much for us. We wear a mask as an act of kindness for strangers, because everyone we meet is fighting a battle we can know nothing about. We can’t assume that they or their loved ones aren’t at risk. We took a road trip recently, we were naturally very socially distant as we explored beautiful vistas. On the occasions we encountered other hikers/explorers, we masked up to demonstrate our respect for their well being. We masked up as a greeting to fellow citizens on our paths of shared experience. Isn’t wearing a mask at this moment in time the same as a bow or a wave, a demonstration of wishing one another well? Isn’t it a salutation? A literal salute that says “hey, I honor you.”? Covid effing sucks. None of us could possibly wish it on another. Let’s reframe this mask thing, your mask means you wish me and my loved ones well.
