Memphis Rox @memphisroxclimbing is a community based climbing gym in South Memphis, Tennessee. In thier own words: “We’re a family institution that uses climbing to bring people together, to foster community, and to create a culture of encouragement, empowerment, and accomplishment.
No one is ever turned away from Memphis Rox for their inability to pay. Those without the monetary means to climb have full access to our facility in exchange for volunteering at our gym, or at a local charity.”

Last year the program provided 83 jobs to local youth & adults,
served over 17,000 lunches, meals, and snacks to those in need. The gym
offers after-school programming and mentoring for over 100 youth daily and
has introduced 177,000 people to rock climbing and fitness. Staff. members and volunteers have contributed over 3000 volunteer hours for the community. Layer up 2 USAC national climbing competitions and MemphisRox is creating something new & good.

With COVID changing the nature of climbing gyms, MemphisRox serves as a community resource. The gym is a polling place, which is of importance in the upcoming election.

@malikthamartian and I met two years ago and this year we spent two weeks climbing together in Montana and Wyoming. More on this to follow 🖋
