Cupping in Cambodia: Cupping is an ancient form of Chinese medicine in which a therapist puts special glass cups on the skin for a few minutes to create suction. The therapist puts a flammable substance such as alcohol, herbs, or paper in a cup and sets it on fire. When the hot cup is placed on the skin, the air inside the cup cools and creates a vacuum that draws the skin and muscle upward into the cup. This causes the skin to rise and redden as your blood vessels expand. The cup is generally left in place for up to 3 minutes. Enthusiasts say the treatment cures whatever ails you, serving many purposes to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being. Critics of alternative medicine have spoken out against traditional treatments like cupping as "pseudoscience nonsense" that relies on the placebo effect. #cuppingtherapy #cambodia #mekongmoments #mekonglife #phnompenh
