Did you know beverage containers like bottles and cans made up around 44% of litter in NSW before the introduction of NSW’s largest litter reduction initiative, @returnandearnnsw? Our return point onsite at Taronga became one of the first for the container deposit scheme, hosting a reverse vending machine for the local community to recycle their containers. Since then, four container donation stations have been placed within the grounds of Taronga Zoo. This plastic-free July we are proud to announce that since the program's implementation, over 2.7 million containers have been recycled through Taronga’s hosted return points, much of which could have become litter entering ecosystems like rivers and oceans!
