When planning the piece, I immediately thought of my personal experience during my last competitive season (2009-2010). Some of the other title ideas included Breathe In, Tie it Tighter, Contain Yourself, and Don't Eat. Thank you for using your voice and your platform to raise awareness. I think many athletes face eating disorders and burnout, but either we weren't aware of it at the time, or we had no idea that asking for help was an option. As a result, we were not there to support each other when we needed it the most. I left the skating world in 2011, nearly 10 years ago, but I still remember the incredible amount of physical and emotional pain I endured then, and that still lingers.
