Ponta the Smith, Takeshi Taniguchi and Ben Daggers hope to break that trend. We talk about their new magic startup, The Impossible Co. and how they aim to be a bridge between East and West, bringing new magic to audiences about the world.  Shimpei Katsuragawa runs his magic studio ‘La Campanella’ where he performs shows and gives lessons to other magicians, and we speak with him about the intersections between music and magic.   Takuma Suzu is not a magician, but he gives a wider perspective on Japan in general. The subtext of how this applies to the magic in Japan is clear. He has worked with Bugatti, Moncler, Barbour, Hackett London and now Woolrich to bring their brands to the Japanese market. Instead of just 'translating' the brands' work, he speaks of this as a process of 'transforming' their message.  We visited Cyril Takayama at his studio in central Tokyo. From coming to Japan alone at the age of 16, to being sponsored with $100,000 to compete at FISM just three years later, Cyril spoke with us of his tumultuous early years, his first TV specials, and his subsequent superstar status in Japan and South East Asia.  This issue is also bittersweet. Hide Yamamoto has run HalfMoon magic bar in Ginza, Tokyo for the past 19 years. Now 60, the current global situation meant Hide has had to close HalfMoon. We feel so incredibly lucky to have sat with Hide at his bar earlier this year and heard about his world, his shows, and his 'sanctuary' that was HalfMoon.  Issue Three is about magic and sleight of hand, of course, but it is also about language, culture, aesthetics. Issue Three is about people.
