We first started buying coffee from Isaías Cantillo in 2007, when he was the owner of a single farm, La Esperanza, perched high on a hillside in the south of Colombia’s Huila department. Over the last 13 years, we have seen Isaías grow his coffee business, purchasing neighboring plots of land for his children to farm. These days, La Esperanza is the centerpiece of a truly multi-generational farm operation; all five of Isaías’s sons manage their own neighboring coffee farms, but bring their harvests back to La Esperanza for processing and quality control.
