For many years pride month has felt celebratory, filled with parties, marches and fun outfits. This year has provided a much-needed reminder of the history of pride and how it all came about. Pride was started by Trans and gender non-conforming folks of color, fighting against police brutality and raids... sound familiar? So if your pride isn’t intersectional, well it’s not really pride at all. It’s time we properly thank Marsha P Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Zazu Nova, Stormé Delarverie, Lani Ka’ahumanu and so many more who have gotten us to where we are today. We have the privilege we do today because of the work these individuals did to ensure our futures. Now is the time to return the favor. Black Trans Lives Matter.
