From time to time I have painted a scene in two color motifs—loosely speaking those are day and night. I’ve never been quite sure why I’ve done it. Something to do with the nature of going on walks, and being stopped by some fragile informant along the way. And then coming back—perhaps after games with the family or some other mundanity from the world—to see if it’s still there. It almost always isn’t. Something has changed. But it’s on that return, with your adjusted vision and the waning buzz, that you’re comfortable enough to take off your shoes and wander back to your temporary home. Grass and asphalt and contentment that you saw something at least once.
