Today on Juneteenth, Pixar is proud to share the words and message from our friend and collaborator on the upcoming film Soul, Jon Batiste (@jonbatiste).⁣

“Our recent WE ARE protest and revival raised donations and registered people to vote, on site, while lifting peoples’ spirits with music. We will continue this movement tonight in celebration of Juneteenth, a day of hard-fought, preordained independence for Black Americans. On the steps of the Brooklyn Public Library at Grand Army Plaza @_mattwhitaker and I will play two @singforhope pianos in celebration of our ancestors, in an effort to inspire real change in this country through voting and civic engagement. We will chant in for justice in solidarity for Black Lives, celebrate in jubilant song and remember the liberation of our ancestors, all while encouraging people to use their voice in the voting booth. Juneteenth, that glorious day in 1865 when Black Americans were finally liberated in Galveston, Texas, even though the Emancipation Proclamation had been signed two and a half years prior. WE ARE grateful for their sacrifices and WE ARE the chosen ones to carry on their legacy. #WeAre #blm”
