Feeding the masses is difficult and complex work, fertilizer is critical for large scale agriculture to provide higher yield as well as bring nutrients and immunities to high volume crops. Fertilizer ingredients typically have the big 3 - Nitrogen: the top nutrient plants absorb and ensures health. Phosphorus: which helps plants to store energy and helps with photosynthesis absorption. Potassium: which helps with the plants strength and root systems. Historically speaking, fertilizers have made large strides but can still be problematic if they aren’t absorbed by plants and instead enter water systems. Algae blooms are one example of when excess phosphorus makes its way into water systems. Many farmers are taking to winter crop coverage over the years, non harvested crops that get tilled and help add nutrients into the ground. This coverage helps to keep soil intact, preventing air driven migration of fertilizers into water systems.
