In the midst of PRIDE month with a roaring outcry from activists everywhere to protect Black trans people while the Trump administration reversed Obama era protections for transgender folk in the U.S. health care system.  _ At a Convention of the Medical Committee for Human Rights held in Chicago in March 1966, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr declared: “Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane”. BIPOC know all too well how deep the fight is for equitable health care.  _ The movement for black lives includes ALL BLACK PEOPLE. Protecting black life means we must seek to dismantle the oppressive systems that threaten our safety and limit our ability to live fully expressed lives. (scroll back, see my post - I’m A Black Life Conservationist). Conservation of black life means we protect all black life in all its forms. No one has the right to invalidate someone else’s existence.  _ This is not an LGBTQIA issue, this is a human rights issue. This is your issue. This is an issue all of us have to lift. If you are compartmentalizing the issues you will get behind, if you have to measure the impact on your brand before you say something, if you think your “moral” judgment is more important than someone’s right to live - you are part of the problem.  _ This is not about “tolerance”. Do you know what tolerance means? It’s the ability or willingness to endure something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with. This is not about you agreeing. It’s not up for debate. This is not about putting up with trans folk, it’s about standing alongside our LGBTQIA siblings and aligning with their struggle.
