I'm Nia :) I'm absolutely thrilled to be able to share a little bit about me and some of my work with you today ✨ (fun fact: "Nia" is the fifth day of Kwanzaa and means "purpose") ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Like Bryce, I went to @tischdrama at NYU. I'm a proud Experimental Theatre Wing studio alum and graduated in 2019. Since then, I've been working at @ninemusesentertainment and @natblacktheatre. I'm also part of the @sohorep Writer/ Director LAB in NYC with my artistic soulmate who you’ll meet soon, Talia Paulette Oliveras (@talia.jpeg, she's awesome y'all ♥️)!⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ I consider myself a creator, performer, and Afrofuturist — and what's an Afrofuturist, you might ask? I'm an Afrofuturist of the Mundane sort and what this means is my work is a (re)imagining the future that doesn’t depend on a history of Black trauma. This Afro-future is one where dreams are unconditional and possible through action. bell hooks said it best: "The function of art is to do more than tell it like it is — it's to imagine what is possible."⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Now what are these images? These are photos from DREAMS IN BLACK MAJOR ⚡️ At its core, this piece is a celebration of Blackness and Black dreams for the future (as you can see, I have a theme).🔮 It maybe called “Dreams in Black Major,” but one thing for sure is that these dreams can be made real.
