#Squats are not only for muscle development but help with development of bone density as it is a weight barring movement. In terms of foot placement, it depends on your preference and what you are training for. Wide stance is used for power or strength. It cuts down on the distance needed to travel. But the more narrow the stance is the more engage the quads become and helps the leg develop more fully. Wide stance tends to under develop the inner thigh. So if you are training for aesthetics do both as wide grip also emphasizes different areas like the glutes.

As for going all the way down to the ground, this is a touchy topic. Your body is made to squat all the way down to the floor. If you have any muscle imbalances, knee or hip injuries or ankle mobility issues, *do not do it. You will be better suited doing box squats and dead lifts or other recommendations for someone who knows you best. If you have none then #LetsWORK!!!
