We’ve all been forced to be more still than usual. A good thing, I believe. In 2020, the curtain has been pulled back on — everything... and there seems to be a genuine, collective willingness to take a hard look at ourselves — and each other. Systemic oppression cannot be reversed by the oppressed. I’ve taken some time to really be honest with myself about the fog of intersectional racism and sexism that I’d grown accustomed to just — accepting, while still working, creating and thriving, “in spite of...” Now, I find myself cycling through a merry-go-round of emotions: grief, fear, anger, exhaustion... and lately, inspiration, hope, and determination.
