This small screen you’re holding in your hand showed us first hand again what it looks like when an evil man with a badge has no regard for another mans life because of the color of his skin.  What has taken place in the days following has been both inspirational with the way that we have come together against racism and devastating with the way the message has been hijacked and small businesses destroyed. Yes merchandise can be replaced, lives cannot but his will be a zero sum effort if this continues. We must come together and fight for the change not give them a reason to stay the same.  As a white man who grew up in a white suburbia this has been a time to listen to the #blackstories, listen to my friends as they tell their truths.  To hear one of my dearest childhood pals share about the racism he experienced as an African American growing up in a predominantly white city from police and peers and to well up with tears that I didn’t do more. It has been a weekend to talk openly with my kids about the why, the how and where we go from here.  This is a time to lead by example, lead by action. I hope that phone you are reading this one will never be the same, it can’t be. When you look at your phone, remember the feeling you felt when you saw that video of George Floyd.  I have so many emotions and thoughts on how social media and photographers are using the platforms, both good and bad in light of this. But I’ll save that for another post. .
