I had a #HappyPride message already to go but it seemed like that was not the way to go today. I woke up thinking about #Stonewall and how it took an uprising to finally enact some change and to get the #LGBTQ movement started. Remembering #MarshaPJohnson and #SylviaRivera. This country has a long history of protesting to raise awareness of social issues of all kinds. Sometimes those protests get escalated for a variety of reasons. But they are still a valid way to bring attention to things that we will no longer accept. Things that need to change. I was also thinking this morning about #DrKing’s #LetterFromBirminghamJail. In it, he wrote: "We know through painful experience that freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed. Frankly, I have never yet engaged in a direct action movement that was 'well-timed,' according to the timetable of those who have not suffered unduly from the disease of segregation. For years now I have heard the words 'Wait!' It rings in the ear of every Negro with a piercing familiarity. This 'Wait' has almost always meant 'Never.'” Let’s all keep fighting for one another.
