This is by local artist @brndnthmpsn from his Black Boy Fly series, his work is awesome and you should follow him.

I am disgusted with the gross inadequacy of consequence for police officers who brutalize and murder black men and women. George Floyd pleaded for his life while four police officers stood idly. Three policemen broke into Breonna Taylor’s home and murdered her in cold blood. The entire system of law enforcement is rooted in anti blackness. This weekend I am in awe of the solidarity demonstrated against police brutality and racism. I have been watching live footage of the Dallas protests at home (unfortunately I can’t be there) and it’s clear that the police, armed to the teeth and launching dangerous projectiles and tear gas into the peaceful crowd, are the instigators at these protests. This is NOT protecting and serving.
I have shared some resources in my stories as have many others, but real change starts at home and in schools. When one third of homicides committed by strangers are at the hands of cops, it’s time to rethink the hero narrative. It’s clear that the lionization of rogue law enforcement in film and television has deadly consequences. It’s obvious we are still teaching whitewashed history in school, with inadequate time and depth allotted to black history. If social film and art studies existed for teenagers in high school, I think that could change the perspectives for the next generation of white people. I know it would have for me. We stand to lose so much if we fail to change and fail to speak up.
If you feel the need to chime in with “not all cops”, save it because I will be deleting those comments. If you can’t allow space for black grief without getting in your what-aboutisms, please spend some time reflecting on why that is this weekend.
