Morning! Once a week I donate my social media to a different student from our @yearsofliving @putapriceonit campaign to share personal stories about how climate change has impacted their life, along with what we can do to be a part of the solution. If you feel inspired, dive in with us! I take photos and they write a story in the hopes that somehow through all the IG noise and scroll-through content, it speaks to you. This week’s BEAUTIFUL story comes from Sharona Shnayder, a senior at Portland State University in Oregon. “Life feels at a stand-still. Like the rocks that form above our waters and in our valleys. Yet in the stillness remains life and beauty beyond measure. Right now we have an opportunity to preserve these immeasurable features of our world, to make it so the joy and light they bring remains sustainable for future generations. When we accept the reality of the climate crisis and hold polluters accountable for their actions these spaces are given a fighting chance. A key way of doing this is by putting a price on carbon. Think of it this way, if we pay to put our trash out on the curb, why should polluters dump into our atmosphere for free? When people hear the word tax they feel like something is being taken away, but what if you knew what you were receiving instead was a future? A lot of us feel powerless to such an intimidating issue as climate change, but what’s at stake is even greater...it’s our entire world. The inaction of failing to pass a carbon tax comes to us at an astronomical cost--our home and its beauty is in our hands, let’s choose to lift it up.”
